Constructing a bespoke conservatory

Constructing a bespoke conservatory

Considering a bespoke conservatory? Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions:

Will my bespoke conservatory need planning permission?

Planning permission and building regulations will be required unless your proposed bespoke conservatory is acceptable under ‘permitted development’. If in doubt, seek advice from the local planning authority or the Government’s Planning Portal.

Where can I purchase a bespoke conservatory?

You can purchase your bespoke conservatory from Apropos. We will design, manufacture and install your bespoke conservatory based on your personal requirements. Apropos also offers a full construction service, to undertake other aspects of the bespoke conservatory build.

How long will it take for my bespoke conservatory to be completed?

Ordinarily, Apropos works on a 14 week programme to complete a bespoke conservatory. During this period the following will be undertaken:
• A site survey;
• The commissioning and approval of the bespoke conservatory’s general arrangement drawings (GAD);
• Securing planning approval for the bespoke conservatory, if required;
• Manufacture of the bespoke conservatory; and,
• Installation of the bespoke conservatory.

What material makes the best bespoke conservatory?

Aluminium is the best material for a bespoke conservatory. Aluminium is strong, maintenance free and lasts a lifetime. In comparison, timber frames can be high maintenance, will eventually rot, and, in many respects, are less environmentally friendly than aluminium. uPVC cannot provide truly bespoke conservatories.

Can my bespoke conservatory be energy efficient?

Yes, but a bespoke aluminium conservatory is ‘thermally broken’ to increase thermal efficiency. Also check that the bespoke conservatory’s U-value complies with regulations. The lower the U-value the better.

Will my bespoke conservatory need ventilation?

Absolutely. Ventilation in a bespoke conservatory should always be at the ridge of the roof and equally spaced throughout the structure.
