Orangery the Modern Conservatory
Orangery - ever wondered what exactly this kind of structure looks like? The historical definition of an orangery is the place where oranges and lemons were traditionally cultivated. Technically the orangery consisted of several layers of stoned walls with a glass roof, the glass in the roof consisted of vertical side sash sliding windows that could be opened in the summer time to let out the hot air. The overall glass windows covered about seventy five percent of the roof.
The modern day Orangery is widely considered as the contemporary modern twist on the conservatory available for only the most discerning clients. The room is built with side widows, folding sliding doors or French doors with a window at the top of the room. The modern day orangery is used as a sun room.
Examples of how we have created orangeries to improve our clients living space
Our client was looking to change the dining area of their current home. The home consisted of a flat roofed structure that housed the kitchen. Much to the clients' dismay, the room had soon become not the relaxing space they had envisaged and was more of a glass prison. After one of our expert designers visited their home, the client expressed that they wanted to allow as much natural light as possible into the space without having too many walls.
We used our design team to create a roof light to allow allow natural sunlight to pour into the room. The client also wanted to include French doors to the outside and a couple of sliding windows within the space to allow a steady flow of air in the warmer summer months.
Overall the Orangery has added an immense amount of natural light and striking contemporary beauty to the main dinning area of the home.To view our range of orangeries click here or to request your free brochure click here.
