Case Study - Lean to Conservatory
To design and install a lean to conservatory on the rear gable wall of the house transforming the old garden store room, complete with corrugated tin roof, into a beautiful light and airy open plan kitchen dining and living area.
The clients, who are avid gardeners, wanted to replace an old brick lean to store room with a glass and aluminium lean to conservatory. With input from the clients our designer considered various options and it was decided that a large lean-to conservatory would look best and would sit perfectly on the large rear gable wall. There were no windows in the gable wall so it was suggested that the ridge of the lean-to conservatory should go as high as possible to allow as much light in the new space. The old brick lean-to building was demolished and a dwarf wall in matching stone was built.
The result is a vast, light and airy lean-to conservatory where the clients can sit in comfort both in summer and winter, overlooking their newly landscaped garden. Furthermore the client uses it as a greenhouse, especially over the winter months when they bring summer plants inside to keep warm. The contrast between the old and the new literally shines through and brings a refreshing look to the rear of a traditional cottage.
