Conservatory Designs - A Basic Guide

Conservatory Designs - A Basic Guide

The most popular word among home owners these days is a conservatory; though it’s not a new concept. History tells that these ‘home extensions’ or ‘extended homes’ have been around for quite a few hundred years. They were first conceptualized and created by Dutch farmers who kept plants and saplings inside them so as to protect them from the harsh wintry weather.

A conservatory can be a beautiful addition or extension to any home. But to create the charm in it, proper planning is needed to quite a good extent. The house owner is required to keep some things in mind. Such as, the conservatory should be built such that it complements the style of the home. If the house has a modern structure, the conservatory should also be built in a contemporary style. If the house carries an ethnic architectural style, the conservatory should also have the same flavour.

There are various conservatory planners or builders who offer different architectural styles and designs that can easily allure and confuse any home owner. It is, therefore, suggested that before making the decision, you should hire a professional designer and let him guide you through. In some states, you need to sanction a permission from the federal government in order to build conservatories, although not everywhere. Check with your designer about any such rules in your state and he will assist you with all requisite information on it.

Location is another focal point in making the decision about your so sought after place of resort in times of stress. If you happen to live in the northern hemisphere, your conservatory should be south-facing as that is the only direction where you get sunlight as well as fresh air all throughout the year. If you have a passion for gardening, you should build an east facing conservatory. Similarly, if you live in a wintry place, avoid making the conservatory north-facing.
