Housing sector 'needs govt support'
The government has to support growth in the housing sector, one expert has claimed, which could result in more conservatories being constructed.
Mark Goodwin, director of external affairs at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), said measures to bolster the industry have to be present in the next budget.
According to a Rics report, every £1 spent on construction contributes £2.84 to economic activity, which highlights the importance of the sector.
If the housing situation does improve, there is a chance that more people may decide to build conservatories for their properties.
"With house-building at a desperately low level, it is essential that the government takes steps to attract investment into the residential sector," Mr Goodwin observed.
Steve Turner, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation, recently noted mortgage lending practices have to be relaxed, if the problems associated with a lack of housing are to be rectified.
