Scampston conservatory receives lottery funding for restoration
The conservatory at Scampston Hall, near Malton is to be restored to its former glory.
This is because a lottery grant worth nearly £34,000 has been given to the Scampston Conservatory Preservation Company (SCPC), the Gazette and Herald reports.
Chris Legard is a member of the group and he is happy the money can be used to refurbish the conservatory.
"Our vision, which we now have a chance to make a reality, is to restore the historic focal point of the garden," he added.
It was built in 1894, with William Richardson of Darlington the architect and it is now allowed to apply for a grant of £730,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Once it is fully restored the benefits of a conservatory could become clear for all to see and it may be able to return to being an educational tool.
And the SCPC may want to consider installing underground heating, as a spokesman for QEP Vitrex has said it eliminates cold floors.
