Wolverhampton conservatory set for repairs
An historic conservatory in Wolverhampton is set to undergo major renovations after a programme of repair and redecoration saw experts discover decay in its timber frame.
According to Wolverhampton city council, the West Park Conservatory will have structural work carried out to replace the ageing framing.
Specialists have been called in to assist with the delicate matter in order to preserve the original Victorian glass.
City council head of parks Steve Wright explained that the frame will now have to be completely rebuilt due to the rot.
"West Park Conservatory is Grade II-listed and this work is essential towards maintaining the infrastructure of the building," he said.
The expert noted that the scale of the work means that the project is unlikely to be completed before the new year.
It was initially expected that the repairs would cost approximately £50,000, but the discovery of the extent of the rot could add a further £38,000 to the expenditure.
