Remember the weather when upgrading homes
Brits investing in bespoke conservatories, pool houses, kitchen extensions or other glazed improvements should consider how they might stand up to the weather and how to protect them from the elements.
While glass is a strong and durable product, it may be wise to guard against its being damaged by foreign objects in a storm.
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), weather can be "more devastating than burglary".
It noted that it can have implications for homeowners and their policy providers and that every property in the UK is open to damage from the elements.
ABI media relations officer Malcolm Tarling explained that there are some common sense precautions that Brits can take, but added that there is no way of ruling out weather damage.
"It's relatively easy to reduce the likelihood of burglary happening, but weather is much more difficult to predict and the consequences ultimately can be much more devastating and affect a greater number of people," he said.
