Heating bills start to climb as temperature drops
Homeowners planning to buy a bespoke conservatory may be well advised to invest in a quality model which traps the heat.
Recent research by moneysupermarket.com showed that the cost of energy is on the rise once more, just in time for the fall in temperatures as winter approaches.
Some Brits have this week been waking up to find ice on their car windscreens and many will now be considering using their central heating for the first time in a while.
However, doing so is likely to come at a cost, with the figures showing that the average fixed-rate tariff has increased in price by 20 per cent since May.
Furthermore, the average standard, online and fixed tariffs now appear to be reaching the prices seen at the peak of 2009, with homeowners being advised to snap up any cheap deals now while they are still available.
"Providers have been pulling their best energy deals from the market which means the average bill has risen sharply in the last few months alone," explained moneysupermarket energy manager Scott Byrom.
"New customers are left with no choice but to take on a more expensive deal."
In other news, moneysupermarket recently advised homeowners to look beyond the headline rate when choosing a mortgage.
