Brits turning to home improvement
The uncertainty and weakness in the housing market is having a positive effect on the home improvement industry.
According to Elstead Lighting, Brits are spending more cash on improving their property as a result of unstable house prices and difficulties in obtaining finance.
Managing Director Jonathan Lucas explained that an increasing number of homeowners are choosing to stay where they are, rather than pursue any ideas of moving home.
"The property market is not as buoyant as it was and there is more spending going on to develop the home and that also covers the garden," he said.
Brits who have invested in bespoke conservatories and garden studios may be interested to hear that Mr Lucas has noticed a trend where quality garden lighting is in demand.
His comments follow recent research from Everest, which found that 18 million homeowners will improve their houses over the next 12 months.
Approximately 3.3 million of these plan to spend an average of £2,274 working on the exterior of their property.
