Need for conservatory permission highlighted
Brits planning on investing in a bespoke conservatory should be sure that they will achieve planning permission before they proceed with their plans.
This has been highlighted by the story of a Yorkshire couple who could be £4,000 out of pocket if they are told to rip up the foundations of their proposed conservatory.
According to the York Press, David and Debbie White are desperately hoping that they are given retrospective planning permission by Selby District Council.
The couple are hoping to install a Victorian-style glazed extension in place of an old wooden conservatory, which has already been demolished.
Retired policeman Mr White told the newspaper that they would not even be allowed to rebuild the old structure if permission is refused.
He said they were fortunate to have stopped after having the foundations built and claimed to have been given poor advice by local planning officials, who failed to point out that the conservatory may breech planning rules.
In other news, he Ellesmere Port Pioneer has reported that a local homeowner's plans for building a conservatory have been recommended for approval, despite concerns from neighbours that it could put their garden in the shade.
