Build It: Recession has led to home improvements
The recession has led Brits to look at their homes in a different light and many have now chosen to invest in them as they realise they could be there for the foreseeable future.
According to Build It magazine, people are increasingly installing home improvements, with bespoke conservatories and garden studios being just two examples of what can be added to a property.
Editor Anna-Marie DeSouza explained that ensuring your home is fulfilling its "maximum potential" can be a "sound investment" and helps create a "fantastic place to live".
She predicted another strong year for the home improvement market following a successful 2009.
"Homemaking is having a revival at the moment, so there's nothing trendier than partaking in a bit of DIY or mending and replacing something," the expert added.
Ms DeSouza said that people should try to undertake whatever tasks they can handle themselves.
However, for larger projects that alter the structure of a property, it may be best to call in the experts.
