UK homeowners not proactive with maintenance
While Brits may be proactive in their approach when installing home improvements, such as bespoke conservatories or garden studios, they are less so when dealing with maintenance issues.
According to the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon, Brits are often reactive when dealing with house repairs.
Recent research from Churchill showed that householders are regularly facing large bills for repairs caused by a lack of maintenance work.
Discussing the figures, National Self Build & Renovation Centre managing director Tim Doherty explained that Brits tend to only do the work that is absolutely necessary.
He said that a less reactive approach is required, with those who keep on top of things such as clearing guttering, servicing boilers and replacing roof tiles more likely to avoid hefty bills.
"That way, you don't have lots of jobs to do at once, especially if you are preparing to put your property on the market," he said.
According to the Churchill research, 49 per cent of homeowners fail to regularly clean their gutters and downpipes, while 68 per cent of those with damp make no effort to dry the areas out.
