Housing figures show lack of confidence
Brits might be tempted to improve their current property with a bespoke conservatory or other home improvement after hearing the latest comments from What Mortgage.
According to the firm, recent statistics show that there is a lack of confidence in the UK economy and that sellers could struggle to attain a reasonable offer for their home.
Nationwide figures show that house prices fell by 0.9 per cent month-on-month in August - the second consecutive month of falls after July's 0.5 per cent dip.
Chief economist Martin Gahbauer explained that a rise in the number of sellers has not helped matters.
However, What Mortgage editor Ben Wilkie suggested that the trend may reflect a lack of belief in the current market.
"House prices are a barometer of the confidence in the economic situation and, because we're a bit worried about the position we're in at the moment, house prices are going to be a little bit more unpredictable than they would otherwise be," he said.
Mr Wilkie added that those looking for a remortgage may suffer more.
