Everyone has a role to play in carbon emissions reduction
Property owners planning a home improvement should consider how it will impact upon how energy efficient their house is.
According to Sustain, everyone in the UK has a responsibility to think about energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprints.
This is true not only for homeowners, but for utilities companies and property developers too, the firm said.
UK energy provider First Utility recently called for a review of the 50,000-customer threshold which forces power firms to comply with a range of legislation.
The firm is approaching this level and complained that the regulations restrict competitiveness.
However, Sustain sustainability and communications director Gordon Miller explained that it is only fair that suppliers have to contribute towards carbon emission reduction.
"The threshold may seem harsh to smaller companies, like First Utility, but appealing to the public on the grounds of the cost is unlikely to gain them much sympathy when energy companies make such huge profits," he said.
