Make the kitchen a focal point
Brits thinking about having a new kitchen extension built to help make the room a focal point of the property are not alone.
According to mb.com.ph, the kitchen is no longer a space that should be hidden away and kept solely for food preparation purposes.
It noted how interior designers and architects are increasingly combining rooms in an open-plan trend that means kitchens may now form the main living and social area.
"There is now a conscious effort to bring the kitchen in resonance with [the] space's overall design theme," the website said.
It pointed to architect Ed Calma, who recently won the grand prize in the contemporary kitchen category of a design competition.
The expert's entry comprised his own kitchen, which he has made the main statement room of his home.
He told the website that seeing the kitchen space as a place to express yourself is in vogue, noting how he uses his to display artworks.
