Homeowners could build conservatory to make property stand out
Brits attempting to sell their home may have to invest in a bespoke conservatory or kitchen extension to help the property stand out from the competition.
There is likely to be a continued shortage of buyers for the time being, with online mortgage broker John Charcol noting that first-time buyers are struggling "at least as much" as home movers within the current market.
The Chartered Institute of Housing recently claimed that the "golden age of home ownership is coming to an end" - something that John Charcol senior technical manager Ray Boulger agreed with.
He explained that first-time buyer activity has failed to improve faster than that from normal property buyers since the beginning of 2009.
"That, of course, is because of the big deposits that are needed which will tend to be more difficult for a first-time buyer to get than a mover, who obviously in many cases will have enough equity in their property to provide a deposit," Mr Boulger said.
