Conflicting opinions 'could confuse conservatory buyers'
Homeowners considering building a bespoke conservatory or kitchen extension to help boost the value and appeal of their property have a right to feel confused about the direction of the housing market.
This is according to independent property investment consultancy Ducalian, which highlighted two conflicting reports released earlier this week as an example of how different opinions can cause bafflement among the British public.
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors released figures showing that house prices fell in July for the first time for a year, with demand for property also falling.
However, the National Association of Estate Agents claimed that last month was one of the strongest of the year so far, with increases in the number of house hunters, sellers and first-time buyers.
Ducalian head of consulting Timothy Lambert explained that the lack of available mortgage credit is still hampering the market and that this could keep things subdued for a while yet.
"Whilst someone may have a good credit score and track record, if a house dips in value by 20 per cent, that is the bank's only collateral and they don't want to get into the same territory as three years ago," he said.
With a lack of buyers with the means to push a purchase through, sellers may be keen to do all they can to ensure their property stands out from the crowd.
