Housing market enjoys strong July
The housing market has experienced one of its strongest months of 2010, it has been claimed.
In what could be good news for those who plan to invest in a bespoke conservatory or garden studio to boost their home's value, property sales were up in July.
According to figures from the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), its members enjoyed a prosperous month, with more Brits putting their homes up for sale and therefore more completed transactions.
Agents reported an average of 68 properties on their books - a rise from 59 in June - while the percentage of sales made to first-time buyers rose from 21 to 26.
The organisation speculated that this may be partly down to the changes to the stamp duty threshold.
NAEA president Michael Jones noted that, with both demand and supply increasing, the market looks like it is continuing to recover.
"However, we should not get carried away - what we are seeing is a slow, steady and patently fragile recovery," he said.
"One thing which is interesting is that consumer confidence in the market appears to be high, despite apparent uncertainty elsewhere about the future of the economy."
In other news, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors revealed that there was a fall in house prices during July.
