Home furnishing trends changing
The way in which Brits choose to decorate their homes is changing as a result of the tough times the UK has dealt with recently, it has been claimed.
While people may still wish to expand their homes with bespoke conservatories and kitchen extensions, the furnishings they fill them with are different from a few years ago.
In the past, the trend was very much for things being stripped away for a more minimalist look.
However, Simon Hamilton and Associates director Simon Hamilton has suggested that Brits are now keen to fill their home with furniture that is "a bit more worn in" and has "more heritage".
"We have had a period of things being very pared down and stripped away, and it's a reaction to that and a reflection of a time in which people are unsettled and not sure of the future," Mr Hamilton said.
He explained that people now want to feel more secure and that this feeling is being reflected in their choice of furnishings.
Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph recently published an article in which Katrina Burroughs noted how many paint manufacturers are stocking vibrant colours this summer.
Despite this, she believes that Brits are more comfortable with cream, oyster, beige and stone shades.
