Government 'should do more' to help new buyers
Homeowners who plan to invest in a bespoke conservatory or garden studio to boost the value and appeal of their property may be pleased by the recent comments from PricedOut.org.uk.
The online resource suggested that the government should be doing more to help first-time buyers to access the housing ladder.
Recent research from John Charcol revealed that those new to the market account for the smallest share of mortgage approvals since December 2008, with only 5.4 per cent of home loans taken out in June going to this demographic.
PricedOut.org.uk press officer Katy John called for housing minister Grant Shapps to do more to help those who aspire to own their own home.
"He needs to start levelling the playing field in favour of first-time buyers and against property investors," she said.
Ms John added that many prospective buyers have already "lost hope" of achieving their dream of home ownership and that the new government should cut tax breaks for property investors and increase taxation on second and multiple homeownership.
