House prices rise year-on-year
Homeowners considering whether to extend their house with a home improvement such as a bespoke conservatory or move to a larger property may be interested in the latest figures from Communities and Local Government.
According to the House Price Index, the average abode cost 10.1 per cent more in April than it would have in the same month in 2009.
Prices rose by 0.9 per cent in the three months to April, compared with a 4.8 per cent increase in the quarter ending January 2010.
Wales saw the largest average annual house price rise at 11.3 per cent, while the cost of a home in Northern Ireland actually fell by 8.9 per cent in the 12 months to April.
Scotland enjoyed a rise of 2.2 per cent, while English homeowners saw the value of their properties rise by 10.9 per cent.
However, the Building Societies Association recently revealed that 55 per cent of Brits do not feel that now is a good time to buy a property.
