Rise in DIY across Britain
New figures show that Britain is a nation of home improvers, with a high proportion having invested in their property over the past year.
According to the Halifax statistics, more than half (56 per cent) of homeowners have carried out some sort of augmentation to their house in the past 12 months.
Furthermore, they are spending more than ever, with the average homeowner paying more than £6,362 to enhance their abode.
The cost-effective new lick of paint was the most popular improvement, while new garden installations also accounted for a large proportion of the work carried out.
Brits' main motivation for investing in their property was to make it look better, with 59 per cent giving this reason.
Meanwhile, 52 per cent were also keen to modernise their homes by adding new up-to-date features.
Examples of improvements which could help bring a home into the 21st century include a bespoke lean-to conservatory, garden studio or kitchen extension.
