Government should help home improvers
Homeowners looking to improve their property with green measures should receive more help from the government, it has been suggested.
According to Geothermal International, the new Liberal Democrat-Conservative coalition should supply increased funding for families who wish to install green technology in their homes.
Director of housing Stewart Purchase suggested that the upfront cost of improvements such as heat pumps can be off-putting for Brits.
He advised the government to step in and provide assistance so that more households can access products that could cut their carbon footprint.
The comments come as the Department of Energy and Climate Change was forced to close the Low Carbon Building Programme to new applicants as a result of spending cuts.
So far, the scheme had provided funding grants that helped around 20,000 microgeneration projects become a reality.
Mr Purchase lamented the closure of the initiative and said that such programmes are vital for allowing Brits to go green at home.
Other technologies available include devices which take warm air from the conservatory and pump it around the home to help reduce heating bills.
