Home automation the latest improvement trend
Homeowners who have improved their property with a bespoke conservatory or pool house may be interested in the latest comments from a renowned inventor.
IBM academy of technology member and visiting professor at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Andy Stanford-Clarke suggested that the new trend in home improvement could be for owners to automate their house.
Recent VentureBeat findings show that people interested in such installations want them to be simple and not require a plug-in to a smart grid to function.
Mr Clarke said that once the correct infrastructure is in place, it is possible to then steadily build a home automation system around it.
He claimed that homeowners could start small with something like energy monitoring and add new technology as it is released.
Things like set-top boxes, smart meters and phone answering machines could be linked to allow the homeowner to eventually control many aspects of their property remotely, the expert explained.
Meanwhile, recent research from ABI showed that the home automation market could be worth £7.77 billion by 2015.
