Brits look to improve security
A number of British homeowners are planning to boost security at their property by investing in additions to the garden.
According to figures from gocompare.com, many residents will embark on DIY projects this summer to increase the security of their outdoor space.
Three quarters of homeowners said that they aim to improve their gardens this year, with an average spend of £420.
Meanwhile 24 per cent are worried about the safety of their garden and seven per cent plan to do something about it.
A further 17 per cent of respondents are aiming to install or replace existing fences and gates.
Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine assistant editor Melanie Griffiths explained that many homeowners are worried about the safety of their gardens and suggested that it could be important to add a security lighting system.
"You can get smart lighting systems that can simulate occupancy of the house. That can be a factor for the garden as well. Security lights would be your number one for the garden," she said.
