Teach kids DIY, parents urged
Brits should teach their offspring how to carry out home improvements to help them in later life, it has been claimed.
While some jobs, such as erecting a bespoke lean-to conservatory, may be best left to the experts, teaching kids the basics can be extremely beneficial, according to Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine.
The publication said that it is important to pass on skills while the children are still young as it will prepare them for the day they eventually buy property.
"Let the kids get involved and help out where they can and hopefully they will take an interest," assistant editor Melanie Griffiths suggested.
Her comments follow statistics from Bosch, which show that men may be losing interest in DIY.
According to the figures, a fifth of males claim to hate performing tasks around the home, with 40 per cent saying they are too busy.
Ms Griffiths argued that the "passion" for the job has not decreased, but noted that some simply lack the basic skills.
