The costs of sustainable building
The reason those looking to install a green home improvement may have to pay more could come down to the rising administration costs facing builders.
According to the Construction Products Association, the costs involved often stop firms from making the work they carry out sustainable.
Industry affairs director John Tebbit recently told the Sustainability Now conference that builders often find they have less cash available for energy-efficient improvements after meeting the costs involved with the Code for Sustainable Homes.
"If I was spending £4,000 on the code fees rather than the £900 I spent [two years ago], that is [almost] £3,000 that I can't spend on better insulation or a solar panel, a better boiler or whatever," he explained.
Mr Tebbit added that a simplification of legislation and "clarity of objectives" would be welcomed within the industry.
Recent research carried out ahead of the event found that 72 per cent of people believe that the new government should "overhaul" current green legislation.
