Coalition good for green building
Homeowners who are considering installing a green home improvement may actually find that the Liberal Democrat and Conservative coalition government works in their favour.
According to the UK Green Building Council, the two parties have "consistency" in their views on sustainability.
Head of the advocacy John Alker said at the Sustainability Now event that the recent discussions between David Cameron and Nick Clegg's parties could help the green industry.
He explained that the subject is one of the few that both sides agree on and that common interest could be beneficial for the nation.
"When they got down the list and saw climate change I think they were probably quite glad that they could say, 'Yes, smart grids, yes, refurbishment of the existing housing stock'," he said.
The expert added that the coalition could result in increased stability for the industry and that the probable appointment of Liberal Democrat Chris Huhne as energy and climate change secretary is "pretty good news".
David Cameron was named as prime minister earlier this week after Gordon Brown tendered his resignation.
