New government 'should help housing market'
Brits considering improving their home with a lean-to conservatory may have been waiting until after last week's general election.
The result may eventually have ramifications for the housing market and one firm has suggested that the new government should take steps to help first-time buyers.
BuyAssociation.co.uk editor Paul Collins claimed that whoever is in charge of the country should look to implement strategies to encourage new people to enter the market.
"First-time buyers are the group most in need of government help at the moment and without this stream of 'new blood' coming into the market, the rest of the property spectrum will eventually suffer," he said.
The expert added that changes to stamp duty regulations and greater commitment to lending from the financial sector would help to improve the market.
Meanwhile, the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries has suggested that the budget deficit could have a prolonged negative effect on the cost of mortgages.
