Women more keen to DIY
British women seem to be getting more interested in DIY, if recent figures are anything to go by.
Statistics from Tesco show that 60 per cent of females now shop for home improvement products in its stores.
This is a large jump from just 20 per cent in the year 2000 and may show a rise in women's independence both from their male counterparts and from tradesmen.
Commenting, Build It and Home Improvement magazine editor Duncan Hayes suggested that the trend may be down to single occupancy households looking to save cash following the financial downturn.
He said that DIY can be a great money saver and that people may be more inclined to pick up their tools in the current economic climate.
"Many people just don't have anyone else to do it and in straitened times they have less disposable income, or perceive they have less, to pay someone else to do it," Mr Hayes explained.
