Government 'should stop trying to boost property prices'
Those trying to decide whether it is a better idea to move to a larger home or extend their current property with something like a bespoke conservatory could be interested in comments from Firstrung.
It claimed that the government should abandon efforts to prop up property prices - which could be bad news for those considering selling.
The British Bankers' Association (BBA) recently revealed that gross mortgage lending is declining.
Figures show that it fell to £8.7 billion in March - much lower than the £9.2 billion average over the previous six months and a 0.4 per cent drop year-on-year.
The BBA added that the effects of the stamp duty holiday were now being seen, with purchase approvals 20 per cent higher than in March 2009.
However, Firstrung chief executive officer Paul Holmes said that the government measures' impact has been overstated.
"I think they have overestimated the overall effect of that holiday. I don't think the government's initiative of a stamp duty holiday really had the impact in the market that people would like to believe," he said.
