Don't take DIY risks, Brits told
Brits are often keen to take on DIY tasks, but should be careful not to cut corners, it has been claimed.
While it might be a good idea to let the professionals take care of larger projects - such as bespoke conservatories - homeowners can manage a lot of tasks on their own.
However, M&S Money has warned that while almost two thirds (64 per cent) of people are likely to attempt jobs on their own, taking shortcuts can be costly.
Aside from the financial price, more than 200,000 Brits end up in hospital each year thanks to DIY injuries.
The financial firm advised homeowners to consider whether their skill level is sufficient before taking on more than they can handle.
It also said that they should ensure they have the necessary accidental damage insurance to cover any costs should things go wrong.
"Spring is one of the most popular times of year to kick start all those DIY jobs that have been accumulating over the winter months," explained head of general insurance Andrew Ferguson, adding that even simple jobs can sometimes go wrong for those lacking experience.
Meanwhile, Sainsbury's Finance recently warned homeowners to make sure that tradesmen are insured before allowing them to carry out any work.
