Holiday weekend 'ideal for home improvements'
This bank holiday weekend is set to be a popular time for home improvements due to having an extra day to get things done, it has been claimed.
Whether it is building a bespoke conservatory or simply installing a roof light, long weekends are often when Brits indulge in a spot of DIY or call in the professionals to develop their property.
According to the New West End Company, people are looking to invest in their homes in the hope that they will see a return when the housing market returns to normal.
Spokesperson Jace Tyrrell explained that bathroom improvements are particularly popular and that the long weekend is a great time to improve your abode.
"Traditionally the May bank holiday weekend is the biggest weekend for home improvements in the country, and retailers are really pushing the home products. It's a big weekend for retailers," he said.
Reflecting these comments, some of London's largest retailers have joined forces to host a number of in-store lectures by seasoned home buyers and designers, with Debenhams, John Lewis and Marks & Spencer all taking part.
