Conservatives: Hips benefit no one
Brits planning to build a bespoke conservatory may be interested in claims that home information packs (Hips) benefit no one.
According to Conservative shadow local government and planning minister Bob Neill, housing professionals "overwhelmingly" agree that the documents serve no purpose.
Mr Neill's party has promised to scrap Hips if it is elected into power on May 6th and the politician said in a Property Week webinar that they are a "needless burden", supported by "virtually no one" in the industry.
He added that low interest rates over the past 12 months have been a rare form of reprieve for the property market, but that the likely rate rise is set to add pressure to an already difficult situation.
"I want to try and avoid significant increases in interest rates because at the moment that is important in helping us out of recession, but the only way to do that is not pumping in more and more borrowed money, it is actually having a sensible and structured strategy for debt repayment," Mr Neill said.
Despite his comments, a recent Land Data Great Housing Debate poll of industry professionals found that only four per cent agreed that Hips should be scrapped.
