Green improvements 'should be made cheaper'
Brits upgrading their home with a bespoke conservatory or other improvement should be encouraged to do so using sustainable practices, it has been suggested.
According to business and technology consultancy Logica, it is "absolutely critical" to encourage such behaviour by increasing the affordability of eco-friendly technology.
With the general election looming, energy efficiency has been high on the agenda, with all three main political parties making pledges on the subject in their manifestos.
Homeowners can currently take advantage of the Pay As You Save (PAYS) initiative, launched by the government in 2009, which allows them to obtain loans for green property improvements.
Logica environmental manager Tony Rooke explained that businesses should also get involved in motivating such behaviour.
"The easiest way to do it is to make the choice of sustainable behaviour cheaper than the choice to be unsustainable, and in some cases remove [the latter]," he said.
Mr Rooke added that many people cannot afford the loans that are available and that it is currently difficult to take green measures unless you are well paid.
