Plot thickens for cowboy conservatory builder
Following recent reports of a cowboy conservatory builder ripping off residents in the Glasgow and Lanarkshire areas, it has been revealed that his con-artistry runs deeper than was previously thought.
Brits who agree cut-price deals with such tradesmen run the risk of losing their cash for the sake of a small saving, but it seems a number of homeowners and companies have fallen foul of James O'Raw's exploits.
The Rutherglen Reformer revealed how the AWOL builder owes a number of people thousands of pounds after promising to build conservatories and other improvements before mysteriously vanishing.
Last week, the newspaper revealed that he had ripped off a local couple and then disconnected his phone, but since then others have gotten in touch to say they have been victims of the conman.
Classic Stained Glass owner Frank MacKenzie told the newspaper that Mr O'Raw owes him £2,800 and that others are owed even more.
"I read the story and this isn't the first time it has happened, he's done this to a lot of people," he said, adding that the tradesman has been blacklisted by around 30 companies due to his exploits.
The story is further evidence of how it can be beneficial to entrust large home improvement projects to professional and respected companies.
In other news, the Guardian recently revealed how a Welsh resident's plans for a lean-to glazed extension have caused a rift between neighbours.
