Home improvers want to create perfect space
Brits who improve their home are more interested in creating the ideal living space than increasing its value, it has been found.
According to a study carried out by housing charity Shelter and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), 74 per cent of homeowners gave this reason for augmenting their property.
Almost three-quarters (73 per cent) of respondents explained their dream of embarking on a home improvement project such as creating a bespoke conservatory or pool house.
A large proportion (74 per cent) of those with such ambitions said that making the most of their space and improving the aesthetics was their main motivation.
Kitchen extensions, conservatories and loft conversions were the most popular improvements on Brits' wish lists, the survey found.
RIBA president Ruth Reed explained that using experts can be vital when it comes to improving the home.
"Architect in the House is a fantastic opportunity for homeowners to benefit from this expertise and see what architects can offer," she said, adding that people can get a consultation for a suggested donation of £40.
Meanwhile, the Sunderland Echo has reported that vandals have targeted the conservatory of a local historic building.
