Vandals attack historic conservatory
Vandals have attacked a conservatory at a historic building in Sunderland, it has been revealed.
According to the Sunderland Echo, arsonists set fire to Doxford House on Warden Law Lane yesterday (April 19th).
The blaze was started in the glazed extension of the Grade II-listed building, which has been victimised by yobs in the past.
The newspaper explained that JJT Developments had hoped to transform the building into a boutique hotel, but have been held back by vandalism and planning issues.
"I was at the property the day before the fire and this time a squatter has moved in," a spokesperson for the firm told the newspaper.
He added that the fire fighters attending the blaze did a great job of protecting most of the house, with the conservatory sustaining the majority of the damage.
In other news, new research from Shelter and the Royal Institute of British Architects has found that the main reason behind adding a home improvement such as a bespoke conservatory is to make the living space more pleasant.
