Elderly club members get conservatory funding
A club set up to give elderly citizens a place to meet and enjoy time together has managed to gain funding for a new glazed extension.
The Victor Street Natter Club offers its more than 30 members activities such as bingo, parties and coffee mornings, the Sunderland Echo revealed.
However, such is its popularity that it required more space, so founders Vera and Mary Gaffney asked Gentoo Living to provide financial assistance for the lean-to conservatory.
Vera told the newspaper that the club was delighted with its facility and that the organisation had done a "great job" of building it.
She added that without the help, there would have been no way for the club to continue welcoming new members.
Support coordinator for Victor Street Gemma Carrick explained that sisters Vera and Mary had to present their case to a panel at the Older Persons' Conference, which is hosted by the firm.
Gentoo exists to provide support for people to live independently in their homes.
