According to ACP Solutions, which supplies Astex allergy bedding, there are a number of steps homeowners can take to alleviate symptoms.
Replacing bedding is just one example given by the firm, which also suggested keeping the conservatory windows open to allow air to circulate.
Other moves homeowners can make include switching carpets and curtains with hard floors and blinds to limit the amount of dust in the house.
Director Lynda Platts explained that dust mites are a common problem for allergy sufferers and limiting their habitat is a good first step to alleviating symptoms.
Recent research from the Universite de Montreal Faculty of Medicine showed that the number of allergy sufferers is increasing.
Just ten per cent of the western population were prone to allergies in 1980, while three times that amount are vulnerable today.
