Election could impact housing industry
The result of the forthcoming general election could have an impact on the number of people investing in a bespoke conservatory or some other form of home improvement.
Those unhappy with their property often face a choice between moving house or staying put and upgrading.
However, the property market could suffer if a hung parliament is elected, one independent estate agent has suggested.
Douglas & Gordon director Ed Mead explained that uncertainty can be disastrous for the housing industry and that "a hung parliament is the very definition of uncertainty".
He suggested that such a result could create "instability in people's minds", causing the market to experience problems.
Mr Mead added that Brits may be best trying to sell their property now while there is plenty of demand in the market.
His comments were backed up by Savills head of residential research Yolande Barnes, who stated that a hung parliament would be the "worst outcome" for the industry.
