New figures show cost of DIY disasters
The case for calling in a reputable company to install a bespoke conservatory or any other large home improvement project has been strengthened by the latest statistics from Santander.
According to the bank, the total cost of DIY disasters is around £331 million per year - a worrying figure considering that the number of Brits looking to upgrade this year has risen by 20 per cent.
Almost three-quarters (72 per cent) of those improving their property will attempt to do it themselves.
However, the research showed that women are statistically more destructive than their male counterparts when it comes to DIY accidents.
Santander Insurance chief executive Miguel Sard explained that the UK is about to enter the time of year when most home improvement projects are undertaken.
"In the past it may have been more efficient and easier to hire help to get these jobs done, but with budgets across the country being squeezed, homeowners are instead attempting to do the work themselves," he said.
Despite this, the cost of rectifying mistakes may make it more prudent to pay a little extra for an expert to undertake the work.
In other news, the government is set to reward businesses and homeowners who reduce their carbon footprint through eco-friendly improvements.
