Brits 'should attempt more home improvements'
There is a real need for Brits to integrate basic home improvement skills back into family life, it has been suggested.
While some projects, such as erecting a bespoke conservatory, should be left to experts, many can be done by homeowners themselves with a little know-how.
The Ideal Home Show claimed that UK citizens should look to boost their ailing knowledge of DIY, with press officer Francesca Gamble noting that they have become "lazy" and are failing to pass on knowledge to their offspring.
"If your kids aren't watching you do it then they are never going to learn, so their first point of call wouldn't be to do it themselves; it would be to phone somebody up," she explained.
Meanwhile, recent Halifax Home insurance research found that 45 per cent of Brits cannot put up a shelf, while 23 per cent do not know how to change a fuse.
Two in five (40 per cent) of respondents also admitted that they would rather call in an expert than perform a job themselves.
