Interest rates 'unlikely to increase'
Those considering taking out a loan to finance a bespoke conservatory or other home improvement may be waiting with baited breath to hear whether interest rates will rise next week.
However, a leading economist has suggested that the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), which sets the base rate of interest, is unlikely to increase it from 0.5 per cent.
Investmentandbusinessnews.co.uk editor Michael Baxter explained that the group is also unlikely to increase its quantitative easing activities.
He said he would be surprised if the MPC opted to change either of these things, but suggested the latter could be extended later in the year.
The base rate of interest is currently at an all-time low and has remained so for some time.
Mr Baxter noted that it is unlikely to change, but revealed that this is not positive news for everyone.
According to the expert, some people are using the low-interest environment to over inflate property prices.
The MPC will make its decision on April 8th.
