Pool house and apartment plan splits opinion
Council members in Devon are at loggerheads over the proposed revamp of an empty hotel.
The planned work at the Lee Bay Hotel in Ilfracombe includes a pool complex with sauna, five garden apartments with grass roofs and the addition of spa treatment rooms.
According to the North Devon Journal, the local authority is keen to see the site developed, but residents feel that the project would disturb the peaceful village life in Fuchsia Valley.
The proposal involves turning the hotel into 19 shared ownership apartments, but local resident Suzanne Ibner told the newspaper that she and her neighbours are being forced into accepting the work.
"We have been given a very smooth interpretation by the architects, but have felt pressured because they told us this is the only way to go," she explained.
The development itself is not the concern, she added. Rather, it is the scale of the plans that locals feel would not be in keeping with the village lifestyle.
Meanwhile, the Cambs Times has revealed that a bespoke pool house in Whittlesey has been nominated for a design award.
