Rules for using a neighbour's wall as part of conservatory
Brits considering erecting a bespoke conservatory that is attached to the wall of a neighbour's extension may be interested in a recent article in a national newspaper.
The Daily Mail explained that utilising such a structure can be very useful in the building process.
However, it is important to have the neighbour's permission to do so and people can often object to such use of their property.
A reader wrote in with a question concerning plans to build a glazed extension in such a fashion.
She explained that the neighbour's structure ran along the boundary line between the two homes and was looking to find out what legalities had to be taken care of to avoid any problems.
The newspaper pointed her in the direction of the Party Wall Act 1996 and the Department for Homes and Communities website.
It suggested that she write to her neighbour explaining exactly what would be done and appoint an independent surveyor if she objects.
Meanwhile, Build It magazine recently suggested that hire tool firms should sharpen up their act after it emerged that many of their products are defective.
