Councillor puts hands up over conservatory failings
A Scottish councillor has admitted failings leading to the closure of an iconic conservatory.
Ayrshire resident Bill Grant lamented decisions which led to the demise of the glazed structure at Belleisle - a renowned beauty spot in the west of the country.
The Ayrshire Post reported that Mr Grant said the council had to take responsibility for its actions and act to restore the site to its former glory.
A decision to close the conservatory, as well as the once-popular Pets' Corner and Belleisle Hotel saved the local authority just £20,000, but resulted in the community losing its famous facilities.
However, plans are afoot to eventually return the park to a state where it attracts visitors from all over the country and beyond.
A meeting of the public recently took place and Mr Grant explained that the next step is to form a group called Friends of Belleisle, which will be responsible for plotting the site's resurrection.
"I used to come here with my children and it was a great day out for all generations. We must get back to that," he told the newspaper.
Meanwhile, the Buxton Advertiser has revealed that plans for a bespoke conservatory at a local hospice have been met with concerns by local residents, who feel that the structure may be "overbearing".
