Home improvement 'back in vogue'
Brits are shunning the property market to invest in home improvements, it has been claimed.
According to Buildbase, developing your current property is coming "back into vogue" thanks to the lack of stock in the housing industry.
Director John Drennan explained that while 2009 was an "uncertain time", with many worried about investing in their homes, things are changing.
He said that Brits are now realising that the downturn was not "as bad as we thought it was going to be".
The comments follow a Conservative Party announcement on the Rebuilding Security initiative, which will offer homeowners up to £6,500 of energy efficiency improvements.
Mr Drennan suggested that green improvements are likely to be popular this year as homeowners look to cut both bills and their carbon footprint.
"Everyone, not just the professional contractor, but the very basic DIYer, is very interested. Whether it be rainwater harvesting or solar power, it is basically reducing the carbon footprint," he revealed.
