Rare bird spotted on conservatory
Conservatories have long been known as great places to watch the wildlife in your garden, but one ornithology fan was treated to an unusual sight from his recently.
Will Bowell of Peterborough was surprised to see what he believes to be a leucistic blackbird perched on his glazed extension.
He explained to the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that he is sure that the feathered creature, which appears to lack skin pigmentation, is not in fact albino, as was suggested by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
The organisation made the diagnosis after seeing a photo of the animal, but 23-year-old Mr Bowell explained that he believed in a different theory.
"A leucistic bird is like a genetic throwback. I had never seen one before. It was a bit of a surprise," he told the newspaper.
He revelled how it took him by surprise when he spotted the bird on his conservatory and that, after watching it for a while, he established that it behaves differently from other blackbirds.
Meanwhile, the Times newspaper has featured an article on how to properly clean the glass in your home - essential knowledge for conservatory owners.
